Online/Blended Course Review

More faculty members are developing and teaching blended and online courses, and even those who have not yet formally made that transition have started putting course materials online and moving some of their face-to-face activities to online environment. Designing a blended or online course site requires not only technical skills but also strong pedagogical skills that take advantage of the online environment to facilitate learning. An Online/Blended Course Review will help you identify the course design elements and activities that most benefit students in your particular course.

The Online/Blended Course Review is a four-part process that includes the following:

  1. Initial meeting

    At the initial meeting, we will discuss review options and background information for the course tentatively submitted for review.

  2. Course Review

    We will use the Quality Matters rubric to review online courses.

  3. Feedback Phase

    At our follow-up meeting, we will provide you with a written summary of review and answer any questions you might have about it.

  4. Action Phase

    Once you have received our feedback, we ask that you determine a “plan of action” for putting our findings into action to enrich your teaching.

  1. Voluntary

    Only instructors can request a review.

  2. Formative

    CTLT facilitators are not in the business of evaluating teaching. Facilitators are only reviewing the organization and activities in the course website. Once we have provided the course review to the instructor, only the instructor decides how it will be used.

  3. Confidential

    No information we gather as a result of the Online/Blended Course Review process will be shared with anyone else at the university or beyond without the instructor’s express consent. We will provide a follow-up letter summarizing the results of the review, and instructors are welcome to use the letter in any way it deems appropriate (as an addition to their teaching portfolio, as part of their annual ASPT report, etc.) We would be happy to send a copy of the letter to a dean, chair, mentor, or DFSC, but only at the written request of the instructor.

  4. Timely

    CTLT facilitators will work with interested faculty to determine appropriate timing for consultation.
