About DART Online

DART Online is an intensive, semester-long workshop for faculty interested in designing and teaching high quality online courses. It is taught in a blended format, with about 75% of the workshop taking place online and the remainder in face-to-face settings. Successful participants will devote 4 to 5 hours per week (8 to 10 hours in the summer) to course work. Each DART Online cohort is limited to 30 faculty members. Participants must be nominated for this workshop by their department chair or director, and they must be assigned to an online course that is "on the books" to be taught in the next semester (or two). For example, participants accepted into a fall cohort must be scheduled to teach their class in the subsequent spring or summer.

The Office of the Provost provides funding for stipends in the amount of $1500 for faculty who successfully complete the DART Online program. Successful completion is measured by the approval of the faculty member’s chair or director, who will verify that s/he has accepted the course on behalf of the department or school.

Selection Criteria

Should the number of nominations for each cohort exceed 30, the following criteria will be used to select participants:

  • course must be taught fully online
  • course must be scheduled to be taught in one of the next two semesters following the workshop (with preference given to courses in the immediately following semester)
  • course designers/instructors should not have participated in the now-defunct Design a Quality Online Course
  • preference will be given to course designers/instructors with little or no prior online teaching experience
  • preference will be given to courses not previously taught online
