Our Short Courses are just that-- one to three hour workshops to that focus on specific technologies, mainly software and web-based applications. These are hands-on training sessions, so registration is required and seating may be limited.

Clickers are audience response devices which allow instructors to poll an audience in real time. This special one-hour session puts a clicker in your hand, so you can experience this technology’s potential from a student’s perspective. This brief session is designed to help you decide if you want to use clickers in your course. Those who decide to adopt clickers can then take the more comprehensive Clickers: Introduction workshop. Responses can be recorded and incorporated into grades in ReggieNet. You will explore the latest, cloud-based polling system from TurningPoint, the official vendor for campus. Discover how to integrate polls into your PowerPoint presentations to create interactive lectures and keep your students engaged in the course material. Registration is required.

Add your voice to a PowerPoint presentation and make it available to your students online. Learn to use Camtasia, a screen-recording program that lets you narrate PowerPoint presentations, still images, or videos. Learn how to update your unit’s website using OUCampus, Illinois State’s primary content management system. You will be given access to your website(s) and trained to add, edit, and publish content, including links and PDFs. Get an overview of the digital image editing program, including a walkthrough of basic tools and concepts. Learn to works with raster graphics, using the tools and commands available in Photoshop, as well as the various ways you can save your work for a website or for printing. This class finishes with a lesson on how to professionally color correct an image. Registration is required.

When it comes down to it, there are only 3 ways to change a photo in Photoshop: general changes that affect the whole photo, changes via selection, and changes made using a brush-metaphor tool. We’ll be exploring all three. As far as brushes go, we’ll be spending a good amount of time learning how to use the Clone Stamp and Healing Brush tools. Registration is required.

This session will give you an overview of the use of powerful Adjustment Layers in Photoshop, a relatively easy-to-learn tool used to create powerful effects. Half of this session will be spent colorizing a black-and-white photo, and the rest looking at techniques used by professional photo editors. Registration is required.
