CTLT is one of the first institutions in the Midwest to offer the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), a unique, multi-day professional development opportunity.
ISW allows faculty to engage in reflective practices to help develop teaching and feedback skills. This workshop is designed as peer-based instructional development where participants engage in participatory learning designed to develop skills and knowledge about student-centered learning concepts and strategies.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this workshop will not be offered during the summer of 2020.
During this 3-day workshop, participants will explore concepts such as participatory learning, diversity of learning, adult learning, and the building of community and determine how these concepts can be implemented in their classrooms. Participants will present 3, 10-minute teaching demonstrations and receive feedback from their peers.
Because of the intensive experiential learning approach of ISW, participants need to commit to the entire 3-day workshop. In addition, there will be work outside of workshop hours.
ISW is open to all tenure track instructors, non-tenure track instructors, and staff with teaching responsibilities. Graduate students are not eligible to participate. Full time tenure or non-tenure track participants who complete all three days are eligible for a $300 stipend.
ISW is open to a limited number of instructors from other institutions of higher learning. Cost to attend the workshop is $400. Interested instructors should contact their institution's faculty development officer or center to inquire about obtaining funds to support their participation.
