New Faculty Orientation Online Modules

Welcome New Faculty!

This is the online component of Fall 2018 New Faculty Orientation (NFO) for Illinois State University.

New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation (NFO) is designed to introduce new faculty to the mission, culture and values of Illinois State University. NFO is built as a blended orientation, and includes both online and face-to-face activities. You’ll begin here with the online modules, which will introduce you to university-specific goals and foci. Then, you’ll join your new colleagues in person for a daylong series of interactive workshops which emphasize Illinois State’s vision, values, culture, history, students, programs, resources, and more.

Before our face-to-face meeting on Monday, August 13, we invite you to complete the four short online modules that will act as the foundation for our face-to-face meeting. For each module that you complete by noon on August 10, you will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win either a $100 or $50 book voucher. This voucher is good for the purchase of a pedagogy book of your choice.

Once you receive your university ID number (ULID), you will have access to these modules through the campus-wide learning management software, ReggieNet.

Online Modules

Please note: You will be asked to provide an email address when you start each module. This can be your University address or a home email address. Please use the same address for each module you complete.

Vision and Values
While all colleges and universities have a strategic plan, here at ISU, we take pride in the way that Educate • Connect • Elevate: Illinois State guides our practice. This module introduces you to ISU's vision and values.
These Are Our Students
You'll hear from a group of students sharing what they wish their professors knew about them and how they learn. You'll then be introduced to demographics and other data that can help you understand ISU's student population.
General Education
General Education is the cornerstone upon which the rest of a student's education rests. Learn about ISU's core curriculum in this module.
FERPA, The Helicopter Parent, and You
Do you know what FERPA stands for? Are you really sure about what you are and are not allowed to do? Find out and, more importantly, learn what it means for your interactions with students, their parents, and even their potential employers.
