Keys to Enhanced Teaching

CTLT organizes much of its professional development for faculty and staff using a series of categories, or "keys," identified to enhance teaching. These “keys” are inspired by categories enumerated in the National Survey of Student Engagement, the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement, and findings from IDEA Education.

Engage Learners
Engage Learners

People learn best when they are invested in the process. Workshops in this category will help you promote that engagement.

Make Connections
Make Connections

Learning is a social process. Workshops in this category will help you foster and capitalize on the communal aspects of learning.

Design Learning
Design Learning

A well-designed course starts with a clear understanding of what students will learn, how they will learn it, and how you will assess their learning. Whether you teach face-to-face, blended, or online, workshops in this category will help you consider one or more of these elements.

Transform Teaching
Engage Learners

Transform your teaching by “stepping away from the podium.” Workshops in this category will help you embrace innovative teaching approaches that encourage higher-order thinking, the application of new knowledge, original research, creativity, and more.

Expand Horizons
Engage Learners

Illinois State University’s vision includes a commitment to "responsible stewardship, meaningful civic engagement, cultural enrichment, and the development of global citizens." Workshops in this category will help you incorporate this vision in to classes that encourage active engagement with the world beyond the classroom.
