Preparing students to live and work in our very complex world, one of the keys to the core value of Diversity and Inclusion in Educate - Connect - Elevate depends upon incorporating diverse content, curriculum, and perspectives in courses and being mindful of the diverse ways people communicate and learn.
Faculty can foster cultural competence through their participation in Reinvent Your Course for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. With reflection on course content and the ways in which that content is meeting the needs of the diverse student population at Illinois State University, this workshop calls faculty to foster an inclusive environment and to help themselves and their students develop more nuanced cultural understanding. A campus that is deliberate about creating inclusive learning environments can also be more successful at recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented populations.
Participants will engage in this cohort through a combination of synchronous meetings through Zoom and asynchronous activities.
A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program, which includes a final presentation on June 1.
In this workshop, participants will:
Tina Williams, Management and Quantitative Methods
Mayuko Nakamura, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology
