Undergraduate research experiences are widely recognized as high-impact practices with positive outcomes for student development and success. The impact of undergraduate research experiences, however, is limited because they involve relatively few students in one-on-one independent study or internship experiences. This learning community invites instructors interested in developing course-based student research within a specific social science or humanities course.
Course-Based Undergraduate Research (CURE) can make authentic research experiences accessible to larger numbers of students. CUREs have been defined as "learning experiences in which whole classes of students address a research question or problem with unknown outcomes or solutions that are of interest to external stakeholders" (Dolan n.d., 3). While the term CURE is most often associated with STEM fields, similar efforts are found in in a variety of disciplines.
The learning community begins with three half-day Zoom meetings on June 22, 24, and 26 and ends with a full-day meeting in August. In between, participants will interact asynchronously using ReggieNet.
A $300 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program. Registration is required by Monday, June 15.
