Microsoft Stream is a new video service replacing Office 365 Video starting in the January, 2021. Stream brings with it several features:
To access your Microsoft Stream account after January 4, 2021:
For the spring semester, any existing Office 365 Videos will be automatically copied to the new Stream service. Any updates you made in the fall to your video channel content will be duplicated to Stream during this period, until the official date of the new service – January 4, 2021. After that time, any new video content for your courses must be uploaded directly to Stream.
As part of this process, existing links to your Office 365 videos will be automatically redirected to Stream. This means that you do not need to update the current embedded videos in your ReggieNet courses, even if you copy a Fall 2020 course structure to a new Spring 2021 ReggieNet site, including those sites used for the winter intersession.
If you currently have Office 365 Video channels for classes you will teach again in Spring 2021, students enrolled in those sections will have access to view them. This will be done automatically, behind the scenes, and you don't need to take any further action.
Some students may not be able to view videos if they don't allow Stream to use "cookies" with their web browser. If your students encounter this issue, please have them contact the Technology Support Center at ITHelp.IllinoisState.edu.
Some Groups may be created with the "Allow all members to contribute" option turned on. We recommend that instructors log into Stream and turn this function off, to prevent students from accidentally manipulating videos in your course. Complete instructions on how to do this can be found in this help desk article.
For Summer 2021 and beyond, instructors will have additional controls over how they organize, assign, and embed videos hosted using Microsoft Stream. Look for information on these additional changes later in the spring of 2021.
CTLT provides instructional support for faculty who wish to use Microsoft Stream in their teaching, including help embedding videos in ReggieNet course sites. If you have questions about using Stream please email CTLT@ilstu.edu to arrange a consultation.
